Benin

In Benin, our work focuses on strengthening financial services for agricultural actors and rural communities. By stabilizing and expanding cooperative structures and their networks, we aim to improve access to financial products, particularly for economically vulnerable groups.

A key element of this effort is strengthening financial literacy among cooperative members. With financial services becoming more complex and digital technologies increasingly shaping the sector, education and capacity building are essential.

Our project also supports the development of a sustainable microfinance sector. This includes close cooperation with banking supervisors to continuously adapt the regulatory framework, consolidate progress, and address evolving challenges in governance and risk management. In this way, we contribute to financial inclusion and long-term sector stability.

Sustainable Development Goals

Our project in Benin contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, especially:

Activities

  • Organizing specialized seminars for ministry officials and banking supervisors to increase awareness of the specific needs and characteristics of cooperatives.
  • Establishing and training professional teams for internal control and supervision, including developing relevant policies, procedures, and training modules.
  • Expanding advisory and training services for cooperative staff on innovative agricultural finance products and the digitalization of business processes.
  • Promoting women in leadership positions through networks and exchange platforms, highlighting challenges and sharing best practices.
