The sub-project in Myanmar, which is part of the regional project “Promoting Cooperative Self-Help Organizations in Asia”, aims at improving the framework conditions for cooperatives in the country by supporting selected pilot cooperatives and by increasing the capacities of national stakeholders. The objective is to empower poor households in order to be able to face economic challenges cooperatively. The current project phase lasts from 2018 to 2020.

The selected pilot cooperatives in the fields of agriculture and financial services are being supported in collaboration with other development partners, e.g. the United Office on Drugs and Crime (Story of the Month). DGRV provides advisory services for the organisational development and good governance of cooperatives and strengthens the capacities of board members and managers.

As main national stakeholder in Myanmar’s cooperative system, DGRV supports the Cooperative Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI) in order to build supervisory capacities and to promote a common understanding of the cooperative values and principles.

The project is funded by the BMZ – German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
